Executive & leadership coaching

Someone who has sat in the chair.

I’m not going to sell you coaching. You’ve sat through enough pitches to know what they sound like, and you’re reading this because something about the job has stopped fitting.

For twenty-five years I was the person executives came to when the problem wasn’t one they could take to their own team. Almost none of it was about capability. It was about a job that had quietly grown to fill everything, and a person who had stopped noticing what it was costing.

So we work on what’s actually in front of you. The decision you’re navigating in this moment. The conversation you’re avoiding. The person who isn’t working out. And, more often than anyone admits, the question of what the job gets and what your life keeps. I’ll ask what nobody inside your company can ask you, and I’ll tell you what I see.

Six or twelve months, every other week, and it stays between us, including from whoever is paying. If that sounds useful to you, please book a call.

Julie.

A session

What sixty minutes with me looks like.

Before

You send me two lines: what’s in front of you right now. That’s the agenda. Not my curriculum, your week.

0:00

We start with the decision, not with how you’ve been. There’s a place for that and it isn’t the first ten minutes.

0:10

I ask the questions nobody inside your company can ask you. Some of them are uncomfortable. That’s the point of paying an outsider.

0:45

We land on what you’ll do before we next speak, and what you’ll say to whom. Specific enough that you can’t quietly not do it.

After

A short written note from me within a day. The thinking, the commitments, the thing you said that you should hear back.

Coaching gets sold as a feeling. This is the actual shape of it, so you can decide whether it’s worth your time.

For most of the leaders I coach, the real work turns out to be the arithmetic underneath the job rather than the job itself. Read about that part

What you get

What you actually get.

  1. Sixty minutes every other week on the decision in front of you right now. There’s no curriculum.
  2. Leadership presence, self-awareness and the emotional-intelligence part, worked through real situations rather than assessments.
  3. Preparation for the hard conversations, with the board, a co-founder, the executive who isn’t working out, and a debrief after.
  4. Sustainable rhythms between the job, the family and the rest of your life. This is usually the real work.
  5. A short written note after every session, so the thinking doesn’t evaporate by Thursday.
  6. Access between sessions when something breaks. It will.

How it starts.

Two conversations before either of us commits. Then six months, paid monthly. What we talk about stays between us.

When it isn’t the right fit.

You want a mentor from your exact industry, or a certificate at the end. I coach the person doing the leading, not the domain.

Get in touch

Start with a conversation.

Most engagements begin with a thirty minute call. We’ll work out whether I’m the right person for what you’re facing, or I’ll point you to someone who is.
